Summary
Under general supervision, performance master
journey-level work in the diagnostic, overhaul, adjustment, repair and
maintenance of passenger vehicles and equipment; act as lead worker to other
classified staff in the area; and perform related work as required.
The Automotive Technical/Service Manager is
responsible for the full range of automotive maintenance and repair needed to
keep all Vehicles and equipment in good running condition. Incumbents in this
classification typically inspect automotive and equipment to determine
necessary corrective action; perform diagnostics tests using engine analyzers;
fabricate or modify equipment.
Responsibilities:
Maintains vehicle functional condition by
listening to operator complaints; conducting inspections; repairing engine
failures; repairing mechanical and electrical systems malfunctions; replacing
parts and components; repairing body damage.
Keeps equipment available for use by
inspecting and testing vehicles; completing preventive maintenance such as,
engine tune-ups, oil changes, tire rotation and changes, wheel balancing,
replacing filters.
Verifies vehicle serviceability by conducting
test drives; adjusting controls and systems.
Diagnoses, repairs and overhauls engines,
transmissions, components, electrical and fuel systems, etc for passenger
vehicles.
Maintains appropriate service and repair
records.
Respond to routine and emergency calls for
repairs and service.
Researches, purchases and inventories spare
parts.
May train and direct the work of other
classified staff in the area.
Assist and serves as back up to other
facilities employees.
Requirements:
Perform complex diagnostic procedures on all
vehicle systems; determine appropriate maintenance and repairs; effectively use
hand tools and automotive diagnostic equipment; interpret manufacturers’
specifications; generate and keep mandated computer records and files; advise
in the selection and ordering of spare parts and supplies; layout, position and
complete projects from blueprints, sketches and verbal instructions; inspect
completed work for conformance with specifications, requirements and compliance
with applicable safety codes and regulations; ability to work from plans and
specifications; train and direct the work of other classified staff in the
area; follow and give oral and written instructions; maintain cooperative
working relationships; demonstrate sensitivity to, and respect for diverse client'.
Thorough knowledge of the theory and
complexities of automotive technology, care and operation of internal
combustion engines as well as electric hybrids, current repair methods,
materials and tools.
Qualifications:
Candidates must meet the minimum
qualifications as detailed below, or file for equivalency. Equivalency decisions are made on the basis
of a combination of education and experience that would likely provide the
required knowledge and abilities.
Education: First Degree in Mechanical/Automotive
Engineering from a recognized University/Polytechnic with experience in Motor
Repairs.
Graduation from school apprenticeship program
that includes theory and on-the-job work is an added advantage
